Restaurant

Typical alsatian restaurant

Dining room

The dining room at the Katz tavern is typically Alsatian. With its low wooden ceiling dating from the 16th century and its regional decoration, every detail has been meticulously worked out. The tables are decorated in the purest tradition with Kelsch table cloths.

Terrace

In summer, our large flowered terrace can accommodate up to 50 people. Take advantage of the sun’s rays as well as of the visible hustle and bustle of the city.

Our history

Located in a pedestrian street in the very heart of Saverne, the Taverne Katz restaurant does not pass unnoticed. Its beautiful façade in sculpted timber is a fine example of the German Renaissance style. Built in 1605 by Henri Katz, the Receiver General of the Bishopric, the building has since become an emblematic site of the Bas-Rhin.

The house is a beautiful legacy of the past. Over the years, even centuries, this address has remained a reflection of everyday life throughout history. What was originally a butcher’s shop became a cooperage, and then later down the line, a restaurant.

This monument to Alsatian art perfectly reflects the warm ambience of a real Winstub (traditional wine bar). With its surprisingly ornate facade, the restaurant is one of the most interesting buildings within the city of Saverne. As you walk by, your eyes will immediately be drawn to this stunning façade.
